April 2010 Newsletter

April is here and Easter is just a memory. Where does time go? It seems like only yesterday we were celebrating Christmas and now we’re almost four months into the New Year. Now I know what my grandmother meant when she told me the years of her life flew by like the wind.

.

This year has been one of the wettest on record; the high mountains had more than eight feet of snow in places. The desert is blossoming in every color of the rainbow, red, orange, yellow, pink, blue, purple, violet, green and much more. I’m sure the cactus will bloom this year since the plants have the needed moisture to produce a bumper crop of blossoms. Desert plants are sparing in their blossoms when it’s dry, but they take advantage of wet weather to produce an abundance of seeds.

.

Ed being the photographer he is will be out getting all the pictures he can, but with me being sick with lupus and rheumatoid this year I suppose we’ll be limited somewhat. I can’t sit up too long in the truck before I have problems.

.

Ed sees beauty in places where the normal person sees nothing special. He zooms in on the tiniest desert flowers, sometimes less than a quarter inch in diameter and brings out detail and colors you wouldn’t believe. It’s fun looking at the pictures when he downloads them onto his computer.

.

Along with flowers there are an abundance of insects that wind up on the pictures, such as butterflies, moths, bees and much more.

.

The birds are coming back as well; robins, cardinals, bluejays, woodpeckers, and many more; each singing songs in their own native tongue. They sing to us as their ancestors sang to our parents and grandparents before us for thousands of years.

.

I love mornings, more than any other time of day. As darkness flees before the morning, the world comes alive with the voices of birds, coyotes, roosters, and if you listen carefully you can hear cows lowing on the mountains nearby.

.

Muffin enjoys hanging out the window with her eyes, ears and nose probing the countryside for cows or other animal that she can greet with a hearty good morning bark.

Ed tells her she can talk to them if she wants to but it would be nice if she didn’t yell so loud. I think something is lost in the translation, however, since it doesn’t seem to help much unless he raises his voice to her. Then she gets a hurt look in her eyes and she lays quietly for a couple seconds.

.

The ranches are busy this time of year with roundup. They must herd the cattle into holding pens twice per year to inoculate the herd against rabies and other diseases, brand them and cut out the steers for market.

.

With stress flooding in from every quarter it helps to take time to smell the roses.

Take time with your families and thank the God who gave us ears to hear, eyes to see, a nose to smell, a tongue to taste and express ourselves in speech.

.

Until next month take care and remember God loves you.

Pass The Butter.. Please.

This is interesting. . .
.
Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavorings.
.
DO YOU KNOW... the difference between margarine and butter?
Read on to the end...gets very interesting!
.
Both have the same amount of calories.
Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams
compared to 5 grams.
.
Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by
53% over eating the same amount of butter,
according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
.
Eating butter increases the absorption of many
other nutrients in other foods.
.
Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine
has a few only because they are added!
.
Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can
enhance the flavors of other foods.
.
Butter has been around for centuries where
margarine has been around for less than 100 years.
.
And now, for Margarine..
Very high in Trans fatty acids.
.
Triple risk of coronary heart disease.
.
Increases total cholesterol and LDL
(this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL
cholesterol, (the good cholesterol) .
.
Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold.
.
Lowers quality of breast milk.
.
Decreases immune response.
Decreases insulin response.
And here's the most disturbing fact....
HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!
.
Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being
PLASTIC..
.
This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).
.
You can try this yourself: & lt; BR>
Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage
or shaded area. Within a couple of days
you will note a couple of things:
.
* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies
will go near it (that should tell you something)
* it does not rot or smell differently because
it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it.
Even those teeny weeny microorganisms
will not a find a home to grow. Why?
Because it is nearly plastic.
Would you melt your Tupperware and
spread that on your toast?
.

Faith

The wind's not always at our back;
the sky's not always blue.
Sometimes we crave the things we lack
and don't know what to do.

Sometimes life's an uphill ride
with mountains we must climb.
At times the river's deep and wide
And crossing takes some time.

No one said that life is easy--
there are no guarantees,
so trust the Lord continually
on calm or stormy seas.

The challenges we face today
prepare us for tomorrow,
for faith takes our fear away
and peace replaces sorrow.

A young man had been to Wednesday

Night Bible Study.

The Pastor had shared about listening to God and obeying the Lord's voice

The young man couldn't help but wonder, 'Does God still speak to people?'

After service, he went out with some friends for coffee and pie and they discussed

the message. Several different ones talked about how God had led them in different ways.

It was about ten o'clock when the young man started
driving home. Sitting in his car, he just began to pray, 'God...If you still speak to

people, speak to me. I will listen. I will do my best to obey.'

As he drove down the main street of his town, he had the strangest thought to stop and

buy a gallon of milk. He shook his head and said out loud, 'God is that you?' He didn't

get a reply and started on toward home. But again, the thought, buy a gallon of milk.

The young man thought about Samuel and how he didn't recognize the voice of God, and

how little Samuel ran to Eli.

'Okay, God, in case that is you, I will buy the milk.' It didn't seem like too hard a test of

obedience. He could always use the milk. He stopped and purchased the gallon of milk and

started off toward home.

As he passed Seventh Street, he again felt the urge, 'Turn Down that street.'

This is crazy he thought, and drove on past the intersection.

Again, he felt that he should turn down Seventh Street.

At the next intersection, he turned back and headed down Seventh.

Half jokingly, he said out loud,

'Okay, God, I will.'

He drove several blocks, when suddenly, he felt like he should stop. He pulled over to the

curb and looked around. He was in a semi- commercial area of town. It wasn't the best but

it wasn't the worst of neighborhoods either. The businesses were closed and most of the

houses looked dark like the people were already in bed.

Again, he sensed something, 'Go and give the milk to the people in the house across the street.'

The young man looked at the house. It was dark and it looked like the people were either gone

or they were already asleep. He started to open the door and then sat back in the car seat.

'Lord, this is insane. Those people are asleep and if I wake them up, they are going
to be mad and I will look stupid.' Again, he felt like he should go and give the milk.

Finally, he opened the door, 'Okay God, if this is you, I will go to the door and I will give

them the milk. If you want me to look like a crazy person, okay. I want to be obedient.

I guess that will count for something, but if they don't answer right away, I am out of here.'

He walked across the street and rang the bell. He could hear some noise inside. A man's voice yelled
out, 'Who is it? What do you want?' Then the door opened before the young man could get away.

The man was standing there in his jeans and T-shirt. He looked like he just got out of bed. He

had a strange look on his face and he didn't seem too happy to have some stranger standing on

his doorstep. 'What is it?'

The young man thrust out the gallon of milk, 'Here, I brought this to you.' The man took the

milk and rushed down a hallway.

Then from down the hall came a woman carrying the milk toward the kitchen. The man was

following her holding a baby. The baby was crying. The man had tears streaming down his face.

The man began speaking and half crying, 'We were just praying. We had
some big bills this month and we ran out of money. We didn't have any milk for our baby. I was just praying and asking God to show me how to get some milk.'

His wife in the kitchen yelled out, 'I ask him to send an Angel with some. Are you an Angel?'

The young man reached into his wallet and pulled out all the money he had on him and put it in the man's hand. He turned and walked back toward his car and the tears were streaming down his face.

He knew that God still answers prayers.
